2023-2024 Collection
In 2023 I attended Amber Emm’s art classes. What an amazing artist and teacher she is. I feel I have gained so much from her experienced and critical eye, to see things in my work that needs more definition, more colour, more light. Please see the Menu for details on how to contact me for prices or new Commissions.

Seascapes
Having lived my whole life near the dynamic coastlines of New Zealand and Vanuatu I am constantly in awe of the dramatic changes as the tide rises and falls. When travelling I am always on the lookout for wide and dramatic views and how they can be framed by our local vegetation.

Rahumonu Island (from Dolphin Place). 100 x 80 cm. Acrylic on canvas.
Wave. 90 x 90 cm. Arylic on canvas.Previous seascapes (all sold)

Landscapes
From rolling hills to quaint rickety fences, the landscapes of New Zealand provide a rich tapestry of ideas and colours. Abandoned farm sheds, sheep and the ever-changing greens of our countryside provide me with a colour pallet I love to work with. I’m also influenced by the dramatic landscapes I have experienced during my travels.

Flax & Boulders. 150 x 150 cm. Acrylic on canvas.
Namibia sand dunes. 140 x 90 cm. Acrylic on canvas.Previous landscapes (all sold)

At the Beach
The key elements of New Zealand holidays at the beach; batches, traditional kai moana (seafood) and sand dunes, all stimulate ideas which represent to me the joy of summer.

Batches at Matapouri. 90 x 90 cm. Acrylic on canvas.
Double Red Batches. 90 x 90 cm. Acrylic on canvas.Previous ‘At the Beach’ works (all sold)

Flora
The tropical flowers of the South Pacific are a vivid contrast to the more subtle endemic plants of New Zealand and yet each holds aspects which I strive to portray on canvas. The bright colours found in cottage and botanical gardens give inspiration, to not only some of my abstract works, but also to paintings which capture the essence of our love of flowers.

Fauna
Surrounded by nature, with birds in the garden, farm animals and fish at my doorstep, animals have been a constant part of my life. The unique features of each species allows me as an artist to convey a sense of bringing the wild inside.

Takaha portrait. 40 x 50 cm. Acrylic on board.Previous Fauna works (all sold)

Pointillism
Having been born in Australia and then more recently travelling throughout the country for months, l fell in love with the Aboriginal art style of Dot Painting. Taking that concept, I applied this to my own works and created a number in various colour schemes.

Australian Rock drawings. 120 x 120 cm. Acrylic on canvas.

Vanuatu Invertebrates & Vertebrates. 120 x 120 cm. Acrylic on canvas.Previous Pointillism works (all sold)

Abstract
Using oil-pastels and heat, my abstract art often has a two-dimensional aspect to it. By sometimes using dynamic curved boards I add a third dimension which helps to bring the artwork alive.

Nebula. 100 x 80 cm Acrylic on board. (Private collection).

Eclectic
The definition of ‘eclectic’, sums up perfectly this collection of my work: “deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources”, including my kiwiana, quirky and conceptual ideas.

Inspired
I am often inspired by the subjects, techniques and mediums which other artists have used over the years. I am influenced by a wide range of artists including, but not limited to Monet and van Gough as well as modern New Zealand artists such as Dick Frizzel, Karl Maughn, Tony Ogle, Caz Novak and Sir Grahame Sydney. By applying my personal style onto their frameworks, I create a unique combination of my own and hope to inspire others.

Vanuatu Inspired
Whilst living on a remote tropical island in Vanuatu for 10 years, I had the opportunity to experience the vibrant nature and culture of the area. I was often commissioned to create paintings and other art works such as masks which were influenced by the traditional ceremonies, colours and textures of this South Pacific paradise. I used a range of techniques, including Pointillism, Abstract and Stylized (see above categories for additional examples).
